Hospital -- Last Day

line

In order to allow Eve a chance to get some sleep, Doctor L had ordered that the blood tests that he wanted shouldn't be taken until later in the morning. Unfortunately, Doctor C ALSO wanted blood tests, and therefore instead of being woken up early in the morning one time for two samples, Eve was woken up once for Doctor C's samples, and then again for Doctor L's samples just a couple hours later! IDIOTS! MORONS! *sigh* I loose energy...

Eve did get some sleep that night though. Many of the nurses normal attempts to wake her up were throttled somehow. For several hours in a row, we were undisturbed, and Eve managed to sleep.

But this was the day that we would be going home, and Eve was freaking out waiting for Doctor L to arrive and clear us. The only place we could go, to get away from her room and away from patients calling desperately for nurses to help them (45 minute wait, sorry), was the busy lobby which had a tropical fish tank. We visited there, briefly, a few times during the last couple days. But we had to be around when Doctor L came in, so we had to go back.

Doctor L cleared us to go, finally, but he had one last curve ball to throw at us. It seemed as though Eve's potassium level was still too low. Another potassium drip was called for. I took Doctor L out of the room, and I talked to him private. Is this completely necessary? I mean REALLY REALLY necessary? Can't we just have a prescription potassium pills to take? Eve NEEDED to LEAVE! She was falling apart!

He just stared blankly as I pleaded with him to spare her.

Yes, it was absolutely positively necessary, he told me. And I backed down. And I regret it with all my heart. I knew that he was lying through his teeth, and the drip meant almost nothing, but I backed down. I still didn't realize that the doctors were my mortal enemies. They ONLY cared that there was a one-in-one-BILLION chance that her lower potassium level, that THEY KNEW ABOUT, might cause a problem after she left. And that may cause them to be sued if they didn't treat it. Patient be damned and buried, they HAD to protect themselves at all costs.

Eve was furious, but all she could do was sob as they hooked her up and the drip started.
