a few favorites
I thought I might go through my archives a little at a time and pick out some entries that were my favorites, or the favorites of others. I hope they might help me find things quicky and be helpful to readers who might want a way of getting to know the journal without just diving in at random. I think it's a fairly eclectic mix, so hopefully they're fairly representative of my journal despite being favorites.

1
Cherry Blossom River
April 1, 1999. A dream from long ago and an April Fool's prank. (If you follow the "bad thing" or "unpleasantness" links in this entry, follow all the way so you get the joke.)

31
Fly to the Moon
December 31, 1998. Short and whimsical, a personal favorite.

16
A Gift Not Yet Given
December 16, 1998. About special gifts and the thoughts behind them, a favorite of mine and one I was told by a reader that they would look up next year before Christmas to get into the proper mood. Perhaps I should re-read it then, too.

17
The Package Ritual
December 17, 1998. The flip-side of the coin, a humorous celebration of thoughtless gifts. An entry I wonder if I shouldn't perhaps be ashamed of, but one I got a lot of positive letters about from readers.

9
Outwitted by Koi, or The Battle of the Pond
October 9, 1998. An amusing retelling of my escapades attempting to overwinter our koi. I love chest-waders.

3
If they were gods....
October 3, 1998. I just rather like the silly things Mark and I came up with for what sorts of gods our friends and family might be.

1
The Halloween Ball
October 1, 1998. A tour of my imagination which later grew into an online celebration, also titled, The Halloween Ball.

19
A Strange Romance
September 19, 1998. The "photo essay" here makes this my funniest entry, I think. I can't say any more without ruining it.

1
The Mystery of the Emerald Cranes
August 1, 1998. Fun with silly film noir ideas, goofy pictures, and waterlilies. One of my favorite entries--I had a blast with the "extras" for this entry, especially the goofy pictures of the notorious gangsters, Big Hat and Sunglasses. (Or "Nostrils and Shades"?)

20
Online Antics
February 20, 1999. A lot of people enjoyed The Zodiac Affair recounted in here, which I've archived in full at The Zodiac Affair. Mark's recipe for raspberry margaritas can also be found here.

6
Old Dreams and New Dreams
March 6, 1998. Searching for new dreams after having let go of old, borrowed dreams.

2
Homicidal Maniac Journaller Burb
June 2, 1998. A very silly entry. Don't panic. heh.

24
Perceptions and Self-Images
May 24, 1998. A painful entry, but a good one, I think. Another entry to read if you want to know me better and see the flip-side of my optimism.

18
living with a neurotransmitter imbalance
January 18, 1998. I'm better, but not completely, and will always be somewhat less capable than others. That's ok since I have someone to take care of me. I rarely talk about this, but if you want to know me better, this is a good entry to read.

2
What's Your Insane Zodiac Sign?
January 2, 1998. Insane Zodiac Sign Generator and surreal hunger-induced thoughts, imagining what my surroundings "taste" like. I tend not to like my earlier entries, perhaps simply because of the passage of time, but I rather like this one because it was so playful. I even made a java-version of the Insane Zodiac Sign Generator at a later date.

2
Letter to Santa
December 2, 1997. Short and silly.
