Almost before you're out of them, the cracks and tunnels you've come from seem to disappear into the walls of this immense cave. Crystal glitters on the ceiling, and for a moment you're glad that there's enough light to see them. They look like a thousand blinking eyes up above you.
There is a sweetness to the air that you hadn't noticed was missing in the tunnels and the rest of the maze -- and there is only one obvious way out. The whispers have stopped but you know, somehow, that you haven't seen the last of Eugene and his creations. |
