There are twelve signs in the Chinese zodiac, and five elements: Metal, Earth, Fire, Water, and Wood.   Details about how each element influences the different zodiac signs will be on the Chinese zodiac pages I'm working on right now.   When I've got a beta page finished for the Ox, I'll put the link here so you can read more detailed information about Oxen and about how the different elements modify their personalities.

Here's a basic Chinese-restaurant-place-mat type of description for Oxen:

"Bright, patient, and inspiring to others. You could be happy by yourself, yet make an outstanding parent. Your original, intelligent mind is often hidden in a quiet nature. You like to succeed in all you do and are very trustworthy. Marry a Snake or Rooster. The Sheep will bring trouble."

1997 is the Year of the Ox, here's how Oxen are expected to fare in 1997, according to Theodora Lau's book, The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes:

"A good year although the Ox's plans may suffer delays and small difficulties may crop up unexpectedly.   An auspicious time for marriage or new partnerships.   Children will be born into his family or he will be spending more time with youngsters.   His problems will not be large this year but he can expect some unwelcome traveling or entertaining."
