There are twelve signs in the Chinese zodiac, and five elements: Metal, Earth, Fire, Water, and Wood.
Details about how each element influences the different zodiac signs will be on the Chinese zodiac pages I'm working
on right now. When I've got a beta page finished for the Monkey, I'll put the link here so you can read more
detailed information about Monkeys and about how the different elements modify their personalities. Here's a basic Chinese-restaurant-place-mat type of description for Monkeys: "You are very intelligent are are able to influence people. An enthusiastic achiever, you are easily discouraged and confused. Mischievous and high spirited you are always full of fun. You are bright and friendly, but tend to be very opportunistic. Avoid Tigers. Seek a Dragon or a Rat." 1997 is the Year of the Ox, here's how Monkeys are expected to fare in 1997, according to Theodora Lau's book, The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes: "A somewhat moderate year. The Monkey's profits and enjoyment are restricted and the loss of personal belongings is indicated. His family life will remain smooth but he will be forced to travel or suffer from some chronic illness. His progress is not up to his expectations. A time to curtail his overambition."
